“Good things need time”, as a German saying goes. The idea of Berlins Taiga probably has its roots in my childhood and in the fascination with the strange world that surrounded me.
I spent my youth in a region where the Soviet army was omnipresent. All around me, there were endless barracks, fenced-off military facilities and gigantic military training grounds. The sight of Soviet soldiers and military towns hidden behind high walls was familiar and exotic to me at the same time. As a child, I was not aware of the historical significance of it all. Only many years later was I able to comprehend the context.
I have remained connected with this story all my life. About two decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the withdrawal of the Soviet army, I realized in what a historically unique region I lived and had grown up. I have also been made aware of this by my many guests from far and wide, who are always amazed when they visit these places and listen to their stories.
This has led me to found Berlins Taiga. Visitors to Berlin and Brandenburg shall have the opportunity to discover this unique region and its special history. Berlins Taiga is the first tour operator to focus on the history that has taken place here between 1945 and 1994.
